カラフルなコブダイ。
カリフォルニア州のモントレー湾からメキシコのカリフォルニア湾にかけて生息。
It is similar to the Asian sheepshead wrasse.
The California sheephead is found from Monterey Bay, California to the Gulf of California, Mexico.

日本南部や東シナ海、南シナ海に生息し、体長1m程度まで成長する。
オスは、前頭部と顎がコブのようにふくれる。

The male forehead and jaw swell like a bump.

なぜメガネモチノウオと言うのかというと、目を通る黒い線が眼鏡を掛けている姿に見えるからだという。
